Very simple: The person who submits the most interesting "bag story"-- about how useful their bags were in their travels, or how they used their bags to express themselves, or even how they used their bags to complete their fashion style-- in one hundred words or less will be the winner of the spiffy new bag of their choice*. All stories will be ranked and the winning story will be determined by a panel of three people, including myself.

Submit your unique "bag story" by posting a comment on this blog post, along with your email address. Only those based in the Philippines are eligible and people can submit as many stories as they like.

The bags look like your face.
I have a favorite black laptop backpack which I got 2 years ago. It's my mobile office and I have brought it around the world - the US, Singapore, Hongkong - and around the country - from Laoag, Baguio, Pangasinan, Cabanatuan all over Metro Manila, the Visayas region like Cebu and Iloilo and further down south in Mindanao at CDO, Davao and GenSan. As a constant companion there were times when I got so tired and also used it as a pillow. It's sad though that I have to retire it soon because it now bears a lot of wounds (read: holes) from all the travels we've been through.

My obsession with JanSport began more than 15 years ago, when the “must-have bag” was JanSport. (It still IS the must-have bag for youngsters, since JanSport has achieved the status of a classic.)

My first JanSport backpack saw me through several years of adolescent hormonal upheavals. It was sturdy and durable enough to withstand the weight of my Algebra, Trigonometry, Physics and Chemistry textbooks—turturous subjects all.

Carrying all the stuff I needed, my backpack was a reliable companion in out-of-town gimmicks, retreats and trips. JanSport stuck with me through thick and thin—and for that, I am always grateful!

Back in May 2002, en route to Marikina Shoe Exchange Cubao… well honestly, I was lost going there. With the cabbie who was on his first month driving in Manila, I decided to walk. It was almost evening, and I passed some 2nd hand shops but only one store caught my attention. Along the frontage, I saw this messenger bag. It was a vintage brown bag which spelled out my core values: uniqueness, individuality, fashion and rebellion. After learning that it costs 300 bucks I quickly wore it and paid the cashier. And one other thing about the bag: leather.
